1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene(DBU), is a very alkaline compound. It has a heterocyclic ring of two nitrogen atoms, one of which has an unsaturated double bond on one carbon atom. DBU is often used as alkynylation agent, ligand and catalyst in organic synthesis.

1. Base catalyst in acid-catalyzed reactions: 1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene(DBU) can catalyze acid-catalyzed reactions under acidic conditions, such as nucleophilic addition to ketone, isomerization of ketone aldol, ወዘተ.
