1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene(DBU), is a very alkaline compound. It has a heterocyclic ring of two nitrogen atoms, one of which has an unsaturated double bond on one carbon atom. DBU is often used as alkynylation agent, ligand and catalyst in organic synthesis.

1. Base catalyst in acid-catalyzed reactions: 1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene(DBU) can catalyze acid-catalyzed reactions under acidic conditions, such as nucleophilic addition to ketone, isomerization of ketone aldol, ktp. It can be neutralized with acid to produce a salt form while promoting the reaction of organic matter.

2. Oxidation catalyst: 1,8-Diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene(DBU) can be used as a base catalyst in the oxidation reaction, participating in the reaction of oxygen and organic matter, such as oxidative dehydrogenation reaction, ammonia oxidation reaction, ktp.
