Dichloroethane is an organic compound, a type of halogenated hydrocarbon. Dichloroethane has two isomers,1, 1-dichloroethane and 1, 2-dichloroethane, which are generally referred to as 1, 2-dichloroethane unless otherwise specified. Dichloroethane is colorless or light yellow transparent liquid, insoluble in water, it is colorless at room temperature with chloroform-like odor liquid, toxic, potentially carcinogenic, mainly used as an intermediate in the production process of vinyl chloride (polyvinyl chloride monomer), synthesis is often used as a solvent, also used as wax, fat, rubber and other solvents and grain insecticides. Possible solvent alternatives include 1, 3-dioxane and toluene.

1. As the solvent: EDC is a common organic solvent used to dissolve organic matter, fatty acids, lipids, resins and rubber. It has a high solubility and volatility and can be used to dissolve and clean different kinds of materials.
