N-butanol production capacity decreased year-on-year, while production increased year-on-year. In 2022, the world’s n-butanol production capacity decreased by 3.5% year-on-year, the output increased by 6.9% year-on-year, and the average plant operating rate was 80.2%, an increase of 8.0 percentage points year-on-year.
Northeast Asia accounts for the largest proportion of n-butanol production capacity in the world. The production of n-butanol in the world is mainly concentrated in Northeast Asia, North America and Western Europe. In 2022, Northeast Asia’s n-butanol production capacity will account for 51.6% of the world’s total production capacity, ranking first. North America accounted for 18.0% of production capacity; Western Europe accounts for 10.0% of production capacity.
In 2022, there will be more than 60 major n-butanol production enterprises in the world, and the production capacity of the top ten production enterprises will account for 56.7% of the total production capacity. Among them, BASF is the world’s largest n-butanol producer, accounting for 12.2% of the world’s total production capacity. Dow and Luxi Chemical of the United States ranked second and third respectively.
In 2021, the total international trade of n-butanol was 980 million US dollars, an increase of 100.6%, and the total trade volume was 635,000 tons, a decrease of 14.1%. From the price point of view, the world average export price of n-butanol is 1546.2 US dollars/ton, an increase of 133.3%.
Belgium, China and Germany are the main importers of n-butanol in the world, accounting for 49.3% of the world’s total imports. South Africa, Taiwan and Malaysia are the main exporting countries or regions, accounting for about 53.0% of the world’s total exports.
From 2020 to 2024, the annual growth rate of the world’s n-butanol production capacity and demand will be 2.6% and 2.5%, respectively. Among them, India and Northeast Asia n-butanol production capacity will show varying degrees of growth.
